I’m Nick Rose. I build and repair guitars in Durban, South Africa.
I started my career in jewellery design and manufacture. This was the best place to start, as there are few disciplines that teach design development, conceptualisation and the ability to produce a design from start to finish. Goldsmithing techniques can also be applied to other fields, the tools and principles can lend themselves to the manufacture of pretty much anything.
I started building guitars in 2008, and it did not take long to realise that was what I wanted to do. I went and studied guitar building and repair at Galloup Guitars, where I learnt to focus on building acoustic instruments.
